The Earth Moves, But not Because of Aang in Avatar: The Last Airbender Volume #8

avatar-dark-horse-volume-8-the-riftAvatar: The Last Airbender Volume #8: The Rift Part 2 picks up as Aang and his friends attempt to celebrate Avatar Yangchen’s festival. They are held up when an earthquake strikes, leaving them to find out the cause and save the land that was once sacred to the Airbenders. Meanwhile, Toph has to face off with someone from her past.

Avatar: The Last Airbender Volume #8 follows the previous volumes by picking up where the series left off, with an older, wiser version of Aang honing his powers, and finding out what being the Avatar truly means. Written by Gene Luen Yang, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, it matches the tone of the series with the right amount of tension and humor, which I was glad to see. The writing also stays true to the characters we know and love. The art by Gurihiru matches the series as well, and jumps off the page with great action scenes and wonderful landscapes that really speak to the setting of the story.
Avatar: The Last Airbender Volume 8, The Rift Part 2 is available from Dark Horse Comics July 9th.
