boom_steed_and_mrs_peel_001_aFans of the British spy program rejoice; The Avengers is back in comic book form. In issue #1 of Steed and Mrs. Peel: We’re Needed, the two are working a case that traces back to Steed’s past. Discovering their mark is in fact a close former ally, Steed rushes off to a retirement village for former members of British Intelligence. Meanwhile, Mrs. Peel stays behind to inspect the suspect’s apartment. Peel is attacked by a spy dressed as a maid, while Steed deals with the one person who might be able to answer questions and his dementia.

Ian Edginton begins the run of a delightful spy tale that would make Ian Fleming smile. Partnered with the art of Mark Consentino, the action flows quickly and in an order that makes sense to fans of the spy genre. As a reader not well versed in The Avengers TV program, I felt Steed and Mrs. Peel #1 was a great adventure, but know I missed subtle nuances devoted to fans of the show.

Steed and Mrs. Peel #1 is packed with adventure and several shots of Mrs. Peel fighting in a catsuit.

Steel and Mrs. Peel #1 is available from BOOM! Studios today.
