RnB_Classics02Summer has boiled down upon us, so let’s enjoy some fun with a moose and a flying squirrel. That’s Bullwinkle J. Moose and Rocket J. Squirrel that is.

IDW presents ROCKY AND BULLWINKLE VOLUME #2: VACATIONAL THERAPY. Vacation is the common theme in the volume, of course. It’s not just our friends Bullwinkle and Rocky, it’s also Dudley Do Wright, Peabody and Mr. Sherman. Even Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale are doing their evil deeds in exotic locations.

Multiple artists and writers have taken their hand to these strips. This is seamlessly well done since all the strips carry the same tone and style throughout.

Those born in my generation would have been introduced to Rocky and Bullwinkle thanks to Cartoon Network’s Moose-O-Rama. Current generation would be catching them on the Boomerang network. Either generation are familiar with them as an animated media, so reading these famous characters in comic form is a definite treat. The inner child and child-like adult within me still delights in following the whole gang again.

For those not familiar with the characters, here is a brief rundown. Our main characters, Rocky and Bullwinkle, are two best buddies. Rocky is the more intuitive, clever one whereas Bullwinkle is naïve and lucky. Very lucky. Rocky and Bullwinkle comics are always joined by their friends. In this volume we are also treated to Peabody (a very, very smart dog with a time machine) and his pet boy Sherman. There is also Dudley Do Right, a very honorable Canadian Mountie.

As for the comic strips, Rocky and Bullwinkle are constantly being chased and harassed by the two Pottsvylvanian spies Boris and Natasha. For what reason, I still have no idea. Usually Rocky and Bullwinkle are off on some adventure or almost trapped by the Pottsvylvanians. Then somehow, some way the two friends survive. Basic gist but full of breaking the fourth wall jokes, references, puns, and slap stick comedy.

This volume brought back memories of watching The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle on television. I still remember these characters decades later. These characters were created in the fifties but still been preserved by fans to this day. I would even dare to say that future generations will still appreciate these characters.

Interesting trivia:June Foray is the voice actress for Rocky, Bullwinkle, Dudley, Boris, Natalia and other familiar characters.. She is still acting today.
