IDW is publishing a brand new five-part Godzilla miniseries, from the creative team of Cullen Bunn (“The Sixth Gun,” “Magneto”) and Dave Wachter (“Breath of Bones,” “Night of 1000 Wolves”)! The cover art by Dave Wachter features Godzilla drawn in the classic Millennium design with the sharp jagged spine and smaller reptilian head. The story is set in post apocalyptic Japan with the illustrations reflecting the destroyed city and rubble left behind after the giant Kaiju battle 20 years earlier. It is narrated by Hiroshi, an elder of one of the last remaining human villages to survive after the epic Kaiju battle. Bunn and Wachter start off strong with a flashback of the battle between Godzilla, King Ghidorah, Mothra, Anguirus, and Manda viewed through Hiroshi’s eyes [Wikizilla]. The god-like monsters leave behind a wake of death and destruction covered by a radioactive cloud of dust. The world now belongs to the beasts who roam the earth and the humans who live in the shadow of the destroyed city with their antiquated weapons are no match for the monsters.
Each page fills you with anticipation of the monsters return and Bunn does not disappoint, with the return of the King of the monsters, Godzilla rising from the ash and rubble to face Biollante. This comic is great for both new readers and the die-hard Godzilla fans who will appreciate the classic drawings and references to the old Godzilla movies.
