Age Appropriate Review: The Maze Runner

Editor’s Note: So often the intended audiences of a television program or book series get passed over in a wave of adult cynicism and review. We decided to give the intended audiences a chance to review the books and television shows intended for their age range, and Age Appropriate Reviews was born.  11-year-old Rory reviews the new film ‘The Maze Runner.’

image001The Maze Runner is an adaptation of the book The Maze Runner by James Dashner. The movie is directed by Wes Ball. The main character, Thomas, is played by Dylan O’Brien. The movie premieres September 19.

Thomas wakes up alone in a box. Then he is lifted out and sees he is surrounded by strangers.  He is told by a guy named Chuck not to go into the maze because only runners are allowed into the maze. The runners are the fastest people in the group. The rest of the story goes very fast and has a lot of action. Some moments are a little scary but fun.

The movie follows the book pretty faithfully but there are some details that have been changed. I liked the way they created the Grievers because I imagined them has giant banana slugs with metal spikes. I think you should read the book first, then watch the movie. The movie was great and everyone should see it.
