unnamedFrom the ATX Film Festival we get this announcement:

Austin, TX – January 6, 2015 – The ATX Television Festival continues its commitment to exciting and unique programming with the announcement of a special 10-year reunion of the groundbreaking series QUEER AS FOLK.

“We’re extremely proud to bring QUEER AS FOLK to the Festival this year.  We strive for diverse and revolutionary programming, and this groundbreaking series changed the game for cable television in 2000, marking a high point not only for the LGBT community, but for socially important storytelling.  Along with THE GILMORE GIRLS reunion, THE DAWSON’S CREEK writers room reunion, and much more programming still to be announced, this year’s festival will offer a balance of critically acclaimed series and fan favorites.” – ATX Television Festival Co-Executive Directors and Co-founders Caitlin McFarland and Emily Gipson.

QUEER AS FOLK, the GLAAD Media Award-winner for Outstanding Drama, follows the lives of a group of gay friends and their relationships, careers, loves and ambitions.  Creators Ron Cowen and Daniel Lipman will be in attendance, along with cast members Gale Harold (Brian Kinney), Peter Paige (Emmitt Honeycutt), Robert Gant (Professor Ben Bruckner), Scott Lowell (Ted Schmidt), Michelle Clunie (Melanie Marcus), and Thea Gill (Lindsay Peterson).

“We are delighted that ATX Television Festival has chosen to honor QUEER AS FOLK and that we have the opportunity to be reunited with our remarkable cast.  Writing and producing a groundbreaking, and often controversial, show like QAF was challenging, but also a rewarding and transformative experience for all of us. We look forward to sharing to our stories and memories.” – QUEER AS FOLK creators Daniel Lipman and Ron Cowen.

“I’m so excited for the QUEER AS FOLK reunion at the 2015 ATX TV Fest.  We truly are a family, and any chance we have to be in the same room, catching up, sharing in each other’s lives, is wonderful.  And the fact that ATX is a place to really celebrate Dan and Ron (our creators) is such a bonus – they are far too often overlooked!” – Cast member Peter Paige.

The festival also announces the addition of Jenny Bicks (THE BIG C, MEN IN TREES, SEX AND THE CITY) to our Pitch Competition judges, who joins previously announced judges Kyle Killen, Scott Pennington and Keith Redmon.  Additional judges will be announced at a later date, and submissions are open now until January 16, 2015.  For more information on the one-of-a-kind competition, please visit:www.atxfestival.com/pitch.

The previously announced GILMORE GIRLS Reunion will take place at the Paramount Theater between June 5-7, and that there will be a limited number of SINGLE tickets sold at $85/each.  These tickets will be released in early May, and will be accessible to individuals who do not want to attend the entire festival’s programming.

In addition, the festival is thrilled to continue its partnerships and panel presentations with The Casting Society of America (CSA) and GLAAD.  These two panel presenters allow for the festival to provide current conversations pertinent to the issues of both organizations, in addition to industry members and consumers.

About the ATX Television Festival

Our focus is on the celebration of the television medium: looking back at its history, where it is now, and where it is headed. Our weekend consists of events where attendees can interact with actors, writers, directors, creators, showrunners, music supervisors, casting directors and studio executives involved in all stages of bringing their favorite series to the small screen. We have all the functionality of a traditional film festival – spotlighting classic shows, never aired pilots, cancelled too soon series, cult favorites, current hits, and premieres of new series. In addition, we focus on episode screenings with Q&A’s from the cast and creators; panels focused on industry related topics like streaming and innovative outlets to continue production outside of the network/studio system; and will include parties, live music, meet-ups, social media events, and “super secret happy hours.” Ultimately, ATX has the goal of serving both the community and industry professionals equally by giving them the opportunity to discuss and celebrate all aspects of TV.
