When I saw this trailer I let out a shriek and ended up on the floor hyperventilating with joy. Queen Christina of Sweden received her father’s throne at the
age of six, and was educated as a prince. Her intelligence found interest in history, science, theater, and religion. Christina wore men’s garb, refused to marry, and was likely the lover of Countess Ebba Sparre. I have greatly admired this monarch since my first introduction to her in the lovely 1933 film Queen Christina starring Greta Garbo. The Girl King looks like it will be a biopic fraught with action, diplomatic modernization, and an open discussion of her sexuality. Malin Buska appears promising as the brilliant queen, I truly can’t wait to see it.
