Fans have long speculated about whether Spider-Man would show up in the growing Marvel movie franchise. Rumors of a deal being in the works started gaining momentum in the last couple of months. Today Sony and Marvel announced in a press release on Marvel’s website, that Spider-Man would be appearing in upcoming film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
As part of the new deal, Spider-Man will appear first in the MCU then Sony will release the next installment of its Spider-Man Franchise in July 2017. The film will be co-produced by Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige and members of the Marvel team along with Amy Pascal, who has been with the franchise since its launch 13 years ago. Sony will still have most of the control over the Spider-Man films as they will still finance, distribute, own and have the creative reigns on the films. Both studios are looking to the possibilities of characters who are currently existing in the MCU to cross over into the upcoming Spider-Man films.

This is the right decision for the franchise, for our business, for Marvel, and for the fans.”
Fans are already speculating about when the web slinging hero will appear in the MCU. Marvel’s next big release, Avengers: Age of Ultron, will hit the big screen in May and one never knows what surprises could be lurking in the end of credit scenes.

Following the announcement of Spider-Man’s entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel has set new release dates for four of the studio’s films. The next Spider-Man film will be released by Sony July 28, 2017 which will push the Marvel slate 3 films back.
Thor: Ragnarok will now be released November 3, 2017. Black Panther will follow on July 6, 2018.
Captain Marvel will hit the silver screen on November 2, 2018 and Inhumans will open on July 12, 2019.
The Avengers Infinity War Part One and Two will keep their previously announced dates of May 4, 2018 and May 3, 2019 respectively.
