Princess Decomposia and Count Spatula is the newest creation by prolific comic artist Andi Watson. Known for his works such as Skeleton Key, Watson’s work is cute and a style all his own. Princess Decomposia has taken on much of her father the King’s work as he lays bedridden. He refuses to eat, other than special items he find in a local food fad diet magazine. After yet another cook quits due to the King’s behaviors, Princess Decomposia hires Count Spatula. Count Spatula transforms the Underground Kingdom by creating new and magical desserts that help ease tensions between various groups such as zombies and werewolves. However, the King is not happy with how often his daughter speaks with Count Spatula and demands the Princess fire him. She takes her duties to the surface of the Earth, bringing Count Spatula with her.
Andi Watson’s book is a combination of ridiculously cute artwork and creatures that traditionally have been considered terrifying. No one could truly be frightened of Count Spatula (who has no fangs) or even the leader of Zombies. Watson has that perfect blend of readability and original art style that makes his works a joy to read.
Princess Decomposia and Count Spatula is an adorable read and age appropriate for both children and adults. It arrives in stores February 24, 2014.
