‘The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl’ and Why You Should Be Reading It Right Now

detailDoreen Green has decided to go to college. Sure, she’s got super powers, the comparative strength of a squirrel and a large bushy tail, but Doreen wants to make sure she is a well rounded individual. Moving out of the attic of the Avenger’s hideout, Squirrel Girl and her squirrel companion Tippy-Toe explore college, pretending to be normal, fighting bad guys and the greatest challenge of all…making regular friends.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is that tongue-in-cheek humor of a webcomic mixed with a Deadpool rant. She carries Deadpool’s Guide to Super Villains Trading Cards, complete with silly descriptions. For example, Kraven the Hunter’s card is labeled with “Call him Kravey, he loves it.” Each page comes complete with a snarky explanation of what’s going on. This is either hilarious or super distracting if you are one of those people (myself included) who feels the need to read every inch of a comic book.

Squirrel Girl’s costume is cute, and what’s that? FULLY COVERING? I about passed out from the shock of a super hero without a form-fitting costume.  And before you think oh, this girl just gets to battle petty bad guys, I’d like to let you in on a little secret; she way be on her way to fighting Galactus in an Iron Squirrel suit.

The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl is worth the cash and time. It currently has only the first two issues out from Marvel, but I’ve got high hopes for this one.  Oh and Marvel? Thanks for giving me a costume I can tastefully cosplay.
