The final film in the “Insidious” trilogy unveiled the official trailer March 17 at the Ace Hotel in Downtown Los Angeles. Starring Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott and Lin Shaye, “Insidious 3” opens June 5, 2015 and is directed by Leigh Whannel. Blumhouse Pictures went all out to celebrate the trailer with themed drinks, trivia contests and live music. The band Conway performed “Tiptoe Through The Tulips,” their cover of the song featured in the film once the trailer had rolled, followed by a quick Q&A with director Whannel and producer Jason Blum.
Leading the evening’s festivities was American Idol’s own “Manny On The Streets” Manny Guevara, offering humor to an otherwise spooky event. Yours truly won the best scream contest, naturally, letting loose my best blood-curdling shriek, while others answered questions about the first two films. “Insidious 3” is an origin tale that takes us to before the Lamberts were terrorized by lipstick-faced demons, black brides and the dark voice known at The Further. Leigh Whannel, who wrote all 3 films and appears as fan favorite Specs, takes the helm in the final chapter of the trilogy in his directorial debut. The film follows Shaye’s character from the first two films Elise Rainer, the gifted psychic who is called upon to help a teenager plagued by a demonic entity. The trailer promises far more jump scares while still maintaining the disturbing visual integrity that has made these movies thrive. There is a far greater sense of urgency than in the past few films, which makes “Insidious 3” look like a shot of adrenaline to the heart at the final phase of the franchise. The official trailer for “Insidious 3” is available now. The Further descends into theaters June 5, 2015.
