The latest chapter of Marvel’s Avengers series, Age of Ultron, took over theaters across the globe with early screenings and fans everywhere went came out to see what was coming next in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The movie started with guns blazing and the team was already assembled and on a mission from the get go. They acquire Loki’s scepter, a key piece from the previous Avengers movie. Tony Stark seizes the opportunity to analyze the scepter before its trip to Asgard with his new colleague, Dr. Bruce Banner. Upon looking at it they realize that the stone that powers the scepter seems to have a mind of it own similar to the Artificial Intelligence that Stark’s program JARVIS has. He believes he can use it to create a new defense system for the earth to protect it. This of course goes horribly wrong and leads to the creation of Ultron. It’s up to the Avengers to stop Ultron from destroying the planet along with some new members to the team.
There was a lot going on in this movie. From the start the team was off and running which felt a little rushed because it wasn’t clear what was going on right away but movie goers are clued in pretty fast with what is going on. The rest of the movie is jam packed with action and great dialogue between the principal characters. The same chemistry we have come to love from the first movie is still there and the bonds between the characters are stronger since we can only assume that they have worked together at other points since the last movie. We know some characters like Stark and Banner, as well as Romanoff and Rogers have spent time together in their respective films.
The Scarlett Witch, played by Elizabeth Olsen (yes, Mary Kate and Ashley’s little sister), plays an important role in helping to flesh out Black Widow, played by Scarlett Johansson. Both ladies hold their own with the boys and play pivotal roles in the main storyline. Still waiting on that Black Widow stand-alone movie… or even a miniseries? I still want to know what ever happened in Budapest! I cannot wait to see the dynamic that having another girl on the team brings now that Scarlett Witch is on the new team.
Jeremy Renner, returns as Hawkeye and we finally get to see his character’s fun side. After spending most of the first movie under Loki’s control, he deserved to get some love. We learn more about his personal life and he becomes father figure to the new recruits. I had read some early reviews that he has some of the best lines and I can agree that his character does have some really great dialogue. He also adds to the emotional elements of the story.
Overall this movie was amazing. I cannot wait to see it again. Joss Whedon did another amazing job with the Avengers franchise by continuing the stories of the characters and adding in new elements. Check out Marvel’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, in theaters across the country now!
