The new Supergirl trailer came out yesterday, and it is good. Very good. Kara/Supergirl Melissa Benoist) is a young woman, just starting out in life. She has to decide what she wants to be (superhero? normal?) and learn what her powers are, “I can fly,” she says early on. “I think.” The rest of the trailer shows her struggling with her decision and not only embracing, but enjoying her abilities (Wouldn’t you laugh if you could fly?), which makes the show look like it will be a lot of fun to watch.
There’s what looks like a strong ensemble cast there as well. Cat Grant (Calista Flockhart) looks at first to be the stereotype evil, stuck up boss–but she also comes across as powerful and smart. James Olson (Mehcad Brooksis very much the kind of person you could see Superman becoming friends with, a steady, strong person who could keep a secret if he needed to. And, it is absolutely fabulous that Kara has a sister who is also her friend. Alex Danvers (Chyler Leigh) gives her super-powered sister advice, support, and a shoulder to cry on when needed.
It’s more than time for a female led superhero show, and this one is worth looking forward to.
