If you’re still in deep mourning for the loss of Sons of Anarchy, don’t fret; Kurt Sutter is returning with a new creation to FX. This time, however, Sutter takes on the Late Middle Ages. FX has ordered a 10-episode first season of the new series The Bastard Executioner. The show will be filmed in Wales and production will resume this summer before airing on FX in the fall. The Bastard Executioner is the story of a knight and warrior under King Edward I’s. He is very much done dealing with the horrors of war, and wants to hang up his sword for good. However,  his wish is cut short. When violence returns to him, he returns to bloodshed in a new way.

The amazing cast includes Katey Sagal (Sons of Anarchy) Stephen Moyer (True Blood) and  new comer Lee Jones in the signature role as the Executioner himself. There is even said to be a role for Matthew Rhys, of fellow FX show The Americans.

According to Sutter:

I love history. I love theology. I love blood. It’s been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements. And with this extraordinary cast — Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer, Lee Jones — this world explodes on screen. I love working with FX and Fox21TVS. They’ve been my family for 15 years. They not only tolerate me, they embrace my extremely disturbing storytelling sensibilities.

The Bastard Executioner comes to FX this fall.
