You Deserve a Drink is the name of Mamrie Hart’s popular Youtube drink-mixing show, as well as the name of her new biography. Like a specialty hard liquor, Mamrie Hart isn’t for everyone. She spends a great deal of the book talking about drunken bad decisions and her vagina. Her brand of humor falls somewhere between a Chelsea Handler cautionary tale and an AA meeting.
I did find myself laughing through most of You Deserve a Drink. Mamrie Hart’s talent lies in mixing drinks, drinking them and telling incredibly uncomfortable stories. Most of her references are from the late 1980’s and 90’s, so readers of about 30 will likely get a kick out of her references to Saved by the Bell and the new defunct Discovery Zone.
Mamrie covers the awkwardness of being a woman and our secret bathing and makeup habits. She covers the difficulties of being comfortable with your sexuality, when others around you just aren’t into that. Most importantly, she covers how to successfully host a party and engage a group of likeminded young women.
You Deserve a Drink is snorting while trying not to laugh funny, but as previously mentioned some readers may find themselves offended by her humor.
