ABC’s The Whispers is Truly Terrifying and Addictive

The Whispers on ABC PosterIt is only 1 minute and 15 seconds into the pilot episode for ABC’s latest science fiction, The Whispers, and I am already scared. Anything with children is always a sure fire winner in the creepy department. By the way, you know you are already hooked into a show when you find yourself screaming at the TV, “DON’T DO IT!”

I am loving this show and it makes me nervous, because shows like this never have a long shelf life. No matter how amazing they are, some how they are the first to get the ax. However, it does seem to be one of the many science fiction shows that will be gracing our list of pilots this year, and therefore has a better chance of staying alive. Here is hoping, we get to see this one ride it out until the end, because so far its GOOD. Even for a pilot it takes the cake. It doesn’t hurt to also have the amazingly, talented Lily Rabe who won over many fans from her roles on American Horror Story. As well as Milo Ventimiglia, best known as Peter Petrelli from Heroes.

The premise is actually very simple, children are being brainwashed by something (let’s just go with aliens since all the signs point to that) that convinces them to play a game. Drill, the name of the not-so-imaginary friend, communicates through flickering of lights and muddles the lines between pretend and real life. Trust me, you do not want to be a part of this game. Besides the children being creepy little brainwashed, killing machines, there is a whole drama plot that is unfolding as the show continues.

ABC is wildly known for their dramas; Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, How to Get Away with Murder, and Scandal . So it is no surprise that they would add a little bit of what they are known for in their new series, The Whispers. But I don’t think it is necessary and spreads the plot way too thin. I mean you have children killing parents and a creepy Drill character running around no one can see. Why do I need affairs and missing-in-action husbands? Hopefully, there is a method behind all the madness and will keep the plot going towards the main focus. Who is Drill and why is this game even happening?

If you like your science fiction mixed in with some horror, then this is the show for you. The Whispers airs Monday at 10 P.M ET on ABC.
