The past couple weeks we’ve heard about the end of many entertainment power couples, including the break ups of Gwen and Gavin, Miranda and Blake, Kourtney and Scott. Now in a surprise announcement Muppet power couple, Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog, have announced their split. Fans of the Muppets all over the world have been in shock over the split. The former couple is currently working together on the upcoming ABC series The Muppets and will continue to work together through the show. It is rumored that Kermit has already moved on and has started seeing another pig according to The Muppet’s twitter account. The following statement was released by Piggy and Kermit.
“After careful thought, thoughtful consideration and considerable squabbling, Miss Piggy made the difficult decision to terminate our romantic relationship. We will continue to work together on television (“The Muppets”/Tuesdays 8pm this fall on ABC) and in all media now known or hereafter devised, in perpetuity, throughout the universe. However, our personal lives are now distinct and separate, and we will be seeing other people, pigs, frogs, et al. This is our only comment on this private matter. Thank you for your understanding.”
As a long time fan of The Muppets, this news was very upsetting. Miss Piggy and Kermit’s relationship has been in the spotlight through their many artistic endeavors, and while it was not always perfect love always seemed to win out in the end. While some girls wanted to find their Prince Charming, I wanted to find a guy like Kermit. Kermit is a frog that can roll with the punches and accepts Miss Piggy for who she is and loves her because of it. If they can not make it work in this crazy world, what hope is there for the rest of us? It is my hope that the split is only temporary and that a short term split might help remind them why they fell in love in the first place. I had the pleasure of watching them perform together last summer in a special appearance at the Disneyland Resort and I will forever remember the couple as they were.
