Lucasfilm and HP announced today that they will be celebrating Star Wars: The Force Awakens with Art Awakens. The program has three main parts:

Starting August 11, amateur artists are invited to “Bend the Rules of the Force” and submit fan art to http://artawakens.com/. Judges include “members from Disney, Lucasfilm and the legendary visual effects house Industrial Light & Magic” and will choose five winners to be showcased in a professional exhibit in November. They will also “have the opportunity to be flown out to Los Angeles to attend the VIP opening night.” In addition, the single grand prize winner will receive a HP laptop.

In November, there will be a 3 day Star Wars: The Force Awakens exhibit in Gallery 1988 in Los Angeles. This exhibit will feature the five winners as well as professional and emerging artists.

Finally:

All new original pieces will be auctioned off in the name of Star Wars: Force for Change to benefit UNICEF Kid Power, which gives kids the power to save lives. By getting active with the UNICEF Kid Power band, kids earn points which unlock food packets for malnourished children around the world.

This way, the celebration goes world wide.

Official rules are up on http://artawakens.com/.
