Mistress of Death: Why You Should Already Be Listening to the ‘Lore’ Podcast

MxdXdQrTThough my dear friend and fellow Editor (Jessica) often begs me to listen to something a bit happier, she did magically drop the podcast “Lore” into my inbox with aplomb.  Knowing my obsession with Welcome to Nightvale, The Hadron Gospel Hour and The Thrilling Adventure Hour, it wasn’t hard to add one more beautifully crafted podcast to my repertoire.

For those not already listening to one of the fastest rising podcast on iTunes, Lore is a bi-weekly podcast dedicated to true scary stories and how they have become part of a world discussion. With a whole world of different stories available, author and creator Aaron Mahnke is not lacking materials. One week he describes a horrifying sanitarium, while another week he discusses the Jersey Devil, or even what happened to folks accused of witchcraft in early America. No matter what the subject matter, Mahnke makes the podcast interesting. I downloaded all his available podcasts before a 7 hour drive, and was deeply thankful that at least some of that time was spent listening to his calm voice. It made for a slightly creepier drive across the barren Arizona desert.

Lore has introduced me to a few incredible things, such as where Arkham Asylum came from in Batman and the Afterglow Vista Mausoleum. I can’t wait to see what else he comes up with.
