Are you head over heels in love with Steampunk? Are you a sucker (like I am) for reality TV that centers around challenges? Are you a crafter? No matter what reason you have, you should set time aside to check out the new show, Steampunk’d. Steampunk’d is brought to us by GSN (Game Show Network) and graces our screens on Wednesday night at 9:00 PM ET.
I have always love the style and craftsmanship that has goes into Steampunk and so when I stumbled across this show, I had to give it a shot. Ten makers (crafters in all different categories) are chosen to battle it out for the title Top Maker and a prize of $100,000. These contestants all specialize in something including corsets, costumes, painting, sculpting, carpentry, and a whole bunch of other things. Each week they break off into teams to create a new room in “The Manor.” On top of creating a whole room based on whatever the them is for the week, they also need to make a costume to go with it. Steampunk’d is hosted by the talented make-up artist Jeannie Mai and judged by Kato, Matt King, and Thomas Willeford.
I wasn’t sure exactly how well this would go off, but I LOVE “The Manor” concept. For the first challenge they were sent off to create a kitchen that fit into a futuristic steampunk theme. Along with the room, they had to make a robot costume and a Rube Goldberg machine. It was defiantly an intense first episode, leaving me a little unattached from the contestants.
What makes me want more, is that costumes and design. Even just the outfits the judges and contestants wear during the challenge have me in aww. For a new show, Steampunk’d has all it needs to be a success. The challenges are something different then most shows, the fashion is on point, and is hitting a trend with a MAJOR following. I can’t wait to see what room they have to build next. In the preview of what is to come this season, they did mention a few rooms we can expect to see. The one I am most excited about is The Nursery!
So give Steampunk’d a shot and tune in on Wednesday 9:00PM ET on GSN.
