Today we lost a brilliant mind in the realm of Horror. Wes Craven, the man responsible for the direction of the Scream and Nightmare on Elm Street films, passed away from brain cancer today. He was 76.

His first film was the terrifying rape-revenge thriller, The Last House on the Left, in 1972. Wesley Craven was a Humanities Professor, a college radio DJ, and of course a powerful director. Wes Craven wrote, directed and produced films for the big screen as well as television.  His films horrified and reinvented the teenage horror flick. Nightmare on Elm Street gave viewers one of the most memorable horror icons of the modern age: Freddy Kruger.

Wes Craven will be deeply mourned by his family and the Horror Community.
