Mistress of Death Review: ‘Samhain: Rituals, Recipes and Lore for Halloween’

cover65473-mediumSamhain (pronounced Sow When, not Sam Hein) is today known better as Halloween. In Samhain: Rituals, Recipes and Lore for Halloween by Diana Rajchel, readers get to read the history behind the famous festival as well as the religious beliefs associated with it. The book covers the pagan roots, as well as different modern and ancient customs for celebrating.

Like Rajchel’s other books in the series (Mabon, Yule etc), Samhain is highly detailed regarding the origins and celebrations. The book covers rituals, recipes and craft projects in relation to the festival. While I do not subscribe to the beliefs contained in the book, it was still fascinating to see the beliefs of another culture.

Samhain is available from Llewelyn Books on September 8, 2015. Look for it on Amazon; on Powell’s
