While I play many games weekly, there are only a few that really stand out as the week comes to a close. Conquest at Kismet is one of my new favorite games. Not only is it perfect for a person who loves strategy, but it isn’t over complicated. The rules and flow of the game are quick to pick up, allowing players to really enjoy the game from the start. Conquest at Kismet is a new game, designed by Jay Vales and published by Victory Point Games. This two player game will have you facing off against your friend as you build your ship and ready to battle for control over natural resources.
The reason this game has rocketed to one of my top positions is because it has created a new method for battling. While many games that involve battling go off point systems, Conquest at Kismet uses a lottery-like method which keeps the game refreshing and exciting. YOU NEVER KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT! This is probably my favorite thing about the game. You can use all the strategy you want to try and stack the deck, but as we know no one can control “luck of the draw”. This element creates a addicting mix between tactic and luck.
Conquest at Kismet is great for all types of gamers. Personally I am not a big space fan, but I can’t explain how much I love this game. I loved all the dynamics from ‘Time Phase”, to building my ship, and all the way to seeing what card was going to be drawn during battle. While at the moment this game is only set for two people, the designer let it slip that more ships might be on the horizon, allowing more friends to join the fun.
