For decades, the Joker has enjoyed toying with Batman. His elaborate jokes have been the stuff of legends within the streets of Gotham. That’s all about to change. With an elaborate virus, the Joker has stopped playing and is looking to take out Batman once and for all. He does that with the involvement of those who know Batman the best: The Justice League.
Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo tell a twisted story with Batman Volume #7: Endgame. The virus in question doesn’t just transform people into the realm of Joker-like behavior, it has regenerative properties. That makes those infected even more dangerous. Infecting Jim Gordon, not to mention Superman or Wonder Woman, is utterly terrifying when you factor in their combined knowledge of Bruce Wayne. Batman is struggling to find a cure for a disease crafted by some of the most dangerous scientific minds in Gotham City, and he needs to find a cure without destroying those he loves.
The story is full of action, but also plays on the emotions of the reader as they watch Batman endure the danger affecting his friends. As someone who had not read the rest of the Volumes in the series, I did find myself occasionally off balance and reading farther into the story than I would have to do had I read the rest of the Volumes. I would recommend picking them up before grabbing Batman Volume #7: Endgame.
