31 Days of Kid Friendly Horror- Kids vs Monsters : THIS IS A KIDS MOVIE?!

Kids vs Monsters dvd coverI……you see……um…… I really can’t explain what just happened. All I do know is that this movie was horrible. Even if I give Kids vs Monsters the benefit of the doubt and threw out that I was not its main demographic, this movie is still down right absurd. Why anyone wold make a kids movie where the parents send their children to die and root for their death, is mind boggling. I just cannot wrap my head around it.

Also can we take a second and ask ourselves why we are still making children/family films with extreme stereotyping. I get they were trying to express the concept of spoiled children, but the constant attention to the obese boy just made me sick. Not only did it make me feel very uncomfortable, but it was just down right distasteful and gross. I can understand their desire to be funny and poke fun. However, the writers of Kids vs Monsters completely missed their mark.

But it wasn’t just the characters that fell flat. This need to create a back story with every monster, left me bored out of my mind. Sometimes we just want villains to be bad. I don’t need this random backstory that tries to milk me of sympathy. Over all this movie just blew. I only watched it til the end to see if there was some redeeming quality.

I do tend to be fair and I really tried to keep an open mind. I kept reminding myself that Kids vs Monsters is made for younger age group. And that would have been fine, if the plot wasn’t as twisted as it is. The whole movie these parents are in a room, watching their children being attack by the monsters. THEY LITERALLY CHEER AS THE CHILDREN DIE! I just can’t fathom why this is made into a kids movie. Then I have to ask myself, is this a kids movie? It is so bad that I automatically think it is, but I can’t seem to find anything that categorizes it as such.

I just spent almost two hours on Kids vs Monsters so I refuse to spend anymore. If you wish to watch it for yourself, please leave your feedback in the comments below. Maybe you might find the silver lining I missed.
