Margaret Atwood’s first work in comics, a three-volume work, all-ages work, Angel Catbird is coming from Dark Horse Best known for novels such as The Handmaid’s Tale, The Robber Bride, and The Blind Assassin, which won the prestigious Booker Prize in 2000, Atwood is a prolific author with a sharp eye and willingness to tackle social concerns. She will be collaborating with artist Johnnie Christmas on the books. Angel Catbird features a superhero whom Atwood describes as “part cat, part bird. Due to some spilled genetic Super-Splicer, our hero got tangled up with both a cat and an owl; hence his fur and feathers, and his identity problems.”
The book is alongside Keep Cats Safe and Save Bird Lives, an initiative led by Nature Canada. Apparently, it supports the initiative with a lot of humor as well as action. According to acquiring editor Daniel Chabon. “Angel Catbird is a humorous, action-driven, pulp-inspired story. And the only other thing I can tell you at this early date is to expect a lot of cat puns.”
Artist Johnnie Christmas (Sheltered, Firebug, Pisces is collaborating on the work, which will begin publication in the fall of 2016.
