2017 is going to be the year of the sequel for Disney.
Coming off of the success of Star Wars: Episode V:II The Force Awakens, one of the highest grossing films of all time, Disney has announced that Star Wars: Episode VIII is in pre-production and begins principal photography in London next month. Kathleen Kennedy and Ram Bergman will produce, with J.J. Abrams, Tom Karnowski and Jason McGaitlin as executive producers. The film is being written and directed by Rian Johnson. More updates are expected over the next few weeks at StarWars.com. It is expected to come to theaters December 15, 2017.
Moving from July 7, 2017, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales is now expected May 26, 2017. The film returns Johnny Depp (of course) as Captain Jack Sparrow. Geoffrey Rush will also reprise his role as Barbossa and Orlando Bloom as Will Turner. Javier Bardem continues his skills at playing a villain as Captain Salazar. The film is currently in post-production.
