Some people like to spend their Sundays relaxing at home and getting ready for the week. But last Sunday I spent my day just a little differently.
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies is coming to a theater near you February 5th. As a long time Jane Austen fan, I loved the creativity that author Seth Grahame-Smith used to merge Austen’s classic story with our never-ending love of zombies. So when the news broke that they were taking this amazing book and making it into an epic movie, I was jittery with excitement.
Then when buzz started to get around about a jaw dropping opportunity, I couldn’t sit idly by. The actors and fans of the movie were getting together to do the unthinkable, break the world record for the most zombies reading Jane Austen. (Currently I am a huge supporter of this new trend of fan-tastic PR stunts.)
Dozens of fans showed up to the TLC Chinese Theatre in Hollywood in their support, dressed to their zombie nines. You had a choice of coming in your own makeup or take a turn with talented artists from Cinema Makeup School. With stations lined up against the wall, they worked endlessly churning out an army of zombies.
While their styles were to die for, I decided to go a more personal route. Juan Ramirez, also known as Juan “Wolfman” Ramirez to many of his followers is quickly making his way up the special effects horror makeup ladder. If I was going to be zombified, then there was no one better then Juan.
Once the makeup was complete, the real fun could begin. First, I stopped by Hot Topic to check out the special event for fans to meet some of the amazing cast. Matt Smith, Lily James, Bella Heathcote, and Douglas Booth were all smiles as they meet fans and signed autographs, before heading over to the theater. It was an extremely quick Hello, which made sense because there were a lot of people excited to see them.
But oddly enough that wasn’t even the biggest line. That honor went to all the people dressed up as zombies and waiting for a chance to join the record breaking event. One by one zombies shuffled to their seats with their personal copies of Pride and Prejudice. With a quick hello from the cast, a few photo ops, and a lot of cheering the day was almost over. That was until they surprised fans with a secret screening of the movie!
To be honest, cosplayers and everyone who came out didn’t do it for the ten minutes of PR stuff, but because they love dressing up and admire a kick-ass movie. Fans from all walks of genres came out in support and it was overall a successful zombie bash. February is filled with hot movie premiers and leading the pack is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies kicking the month off in style Feb 5th.
