For the first time in nine years, DC Entertainment has a film that is not rated PG-13 or below. Warner Bros media has accepted an R-rating for the upcoming animated version of Batman: The Killing Joke. 28 years ago, Alan Moore’s masterpiece blew readers away with one of the most disturbing Batman stories of all time. Rather than lessen the impact of the story itself, Warner Bros has decided to keep the film as is to keep true to the original vision of the story.
The Killing Joke not only established much of the Joker’s modern psychology, it also featured the shooting that turned Batgirl into Oracle.
Batman: The Killing Joke animated film features the voices of Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon and Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon. The first premiere of the film is set for this year’s Comic-Con International in San Diego, before it is released on Blu-ray and DVD.
At this time, Warner Bros and DC Entertainment have no plans for an edited PG-13 edition.
