This is a good year for science fiction and fantasy fans. Every time I think I’ve counted up all of the movies I am looking forward to, I realize I have left one off. Paramount has just released images for Star Trek: Beyond, providing a closer look at the new enemies and allies that the crew of the Enterprise encounters as they go to “the furthest reaches of uncharted space.” The crew is now aided by Jaylah, a woman from a new alien species. Instead of the strange head-bumps the Next Generation aliens tended to feature, she has pale skin and–probably body painting but maybe veining on her face. It’s good to see she comes in proper armor. On a less-important note, I am glad she has pale lips as well. Does it bother anyone else when aliens with green or blue skin and different shades of blood than we have still put on bright red lipstick? Or am I the only one who has thought that if other species wore lipstick at all, it should match their coloring?
In any case, back to the crew and their dilemmas out in the far beyond:
Synopsis for Star Trek: Beyond
Star Trek Beyond, the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin (The Fast and the Furious franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In Beyond, the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
