Independence Day: Resurgence: We always knew they were coming back.
Well, no, we didn’t. A sequel was mentioned, but twenty years is an unusually long time to wait between two movies and still have a sequel rather than a remake. A sequel it is, though, and with many of the same actors.
In a welcome acknowledgement of the changes an alien invasion would cause, the latest trailer for Independence Day: Resergence shows that Earth has been using the technology to build a world rather different from our current world, with much snazzier technology. Of course, the aliens have been busy, too, making even bigger ships than they had the first time.
This means they can blow up landmarks the way they did before, only with bigger explosions. Other scenes from the trailer echo elements of the first Independence Day. This may not be a bad thing; the first Independence Day never claimed to be anything other than a popcorn film full of aliens, explosions, and bravery. This one could be just as fun.
