Designer Layana Aguilar, once a fan favorite on Project Runway and now the creator of her own designer brand has added a new credit to her name: She is the designer for the new Disney Princess, Elena of Avalor’s ballgown. The gown will be seen on the show and is also the inspiration for the dress the princess will wear in the Disney parks when she makes her appearance later this year.
People wanting to see the princess Elena will find her in the Magic Kingdom at Disney World Resort starting in August. At Disneyland Resort, she will be visiting California Adventure in the fall. Her show will begin this summer.
A strong bold read with a silky texture and flowers, Elena of Avalor’s ballgown is vibrant and beautiful. It looks suitable for the intelligent and outgoing, active princess Disney is promising–and it will be great fun for girls to play with and to imagine wearing. It’s a pity that the inevitable Halloween and dress-up costumes won’t have anything like that richness of texture and sheen. Hopefully at least one cosplayer out there will do it justice.
Elena of Avalor follows the story of Elena, a brave and adventurous teenager who saves her kingdom from an evil sorceress and must now learn to rule as crown princess until she is old enough to be queen. Elena’s adventures will lead her to understand that her new role requires thoughtfulness, resilience and compassion, the traits of all truly great leaders. Aimee Carrero (Freeform’s “Young & Hungry”) stars as the voice of Elena.
