Doctor Who: Supremacy of the Cybermen #2 is a ride to be sure. I had to go back and buy the first issue on Comixology just so I knew what I was reading. This six issue series is being called a Doctor Who Event, and I can absolutely see why. With the Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth doctors all in attendance, it would be uncouth to call it anything less. I, like probably every other Whovian out there, have a favorite Doctor, so I can say I was super glad to see all three of them in one comic! No seriously though, having all four of the new era doctors come together is a treat.
Without giving away any spoilers (River would be so proud) the basic story is that the Cybermen are taking over the world, throughout all of time and space. As it’s only the second issue, we don’t get a real solid reason for it yet, although that evil Rassilon most certainly has something to do with it. Luckily the Doctor (in all his regenerations) has his trusty companions with him to help save the day. You know he will, he is the Doctor after all. Along with favorites, Rose and Jackie Tyler, and Captain Jack, there are new companions as well. Together he and his companions battle various forms of Cybermen throughout the ages; Silurians who have been upgraded in the prehistoric age (hooray for a dinosaur cage match, by the way), Sontarians who have been beaten back to only one leg of it’s mighty army in the 24th century, and Timelords. Even they have been touched by the cold metal of the Cybermen.
Can the Doctor and his companions save the world? Like they always do? I’m going to guess yes, because, well I have faith in the Doctor. But in reality I have to wait for four more issues to find out. They can’t come fast enough in my opinion.
Doctor Who: Supremacy of the Cybermen #2 gets a double hearted 5 stars from me, and released today. Go forth and find it at on Amazon
