Welcome to another feature everyone! Today’s cosplayer is fairly new to the community and still working on getting into the groove of things. I would like all of you to give a warm welcome to Revolutionary Prince Cosplay!

Hello Revolutionary Prince! I know you are just starting to explore the infinite possibilities of cosplay so why don’t you share a little bit about yourself…

13001254_783789738421080_869647521299905351_nMy name is Alexander; I am 19 years old. I haven’t found a job yet but i’m working on it. I love any movie be it comedy to horror, i’m not that picky when it comes to it. [Exceppt] Anime, I’m somewhat picky. I know a lot of people are into the super new and sparkly animes but I can’t get myself into them. I love musicals though [such as]: RENT, Hamilton, Wicked and many others that I actually want to cosplay from. My friends and I are making cosplay group of Hamilton the musical.

Musicals are a terrific source of inspiration for costuming. I really enjoyed the Lion King on Broadway at Gammage Auditorium a several years ago and I’ve had a chance to see Phantom of the Opera there as well. So what drew you into cosplay?

What got me into cosplay is that I always loved anime. Being a young Hispanic girl growing up in the west side of phoenix was a little weird since I loved Naruto at the time.

It’s a harsh truth that cultural preference and your environment truly impact the way anime and other “geek” culture items are perceived. I am happy that you maintained your love for anime and that it encouraged you to express yourself through cosplay. Do you have any cosplay dreams yet?

Well my cosplay dreams is to meet my idol Lin Manuel Miranda , I look up to the guy but I know I’ll get to meet him.

For those who don’t know, Lin Manuel Miranda is one of the stars in the musical Hamilton along with being an incredible musician and a strong composer. He has acted and performed in so many plays that he’s certainly a good role model, I wish you the best in portraying his characters and hope you get that chance to meet him. Since you are just beginning to grasp the nuances of the cosplay community what advice would you like to offer cosplayers new and veteran?

My advice to cosplayers: it’s OK to start out with a really bad cosplay because (trust me) one day you’ll be great at it. Oh! And don’t be so hard on yourself if you don’t look like a character because there will always be someone who will recognize you.

That is great advice! Are you working on any costumes right now?

Some of my friends and I are making a Peter Pan cosplay group for a convention soon. I think I’m making Olive from Pushing Daisies and I’m still working on more Hamilton costumes.
