Black is so slimming.
Everyone has to have an evil twin, and our cute little astromech droid is no exception. C2-B5, R2-D2’s evil twin makes his debut in Star Wars: Rogue One on December 16, 2016. Unlike R2-D2, this little droid has had regular memory wipes to keep him subservient.
The droid’s existence was revealed in yesterday’s Star Wars Show, a show which airs every Wednesday on Facebook. I am not sure about the Star Wars Show statement that “unlike the Rebel Alliance,” the Empire does not grant its droids independence. I distinctly remember a memory wipe in the prequels, plus plans by Uncle Owen to do some of the same on our plucky little droid–granted Uncle Owen is not a member of the Alliance, but that line still reads like a Rebel propaganda vid for droids.
Whatever the case, C2-B5 is both cute and sinister in one package.
Official Synopsis for Star Wars: Rogue One
In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
