Oh my goodness. You just don’t don’t understand. I was such a fan of Tank Girl back in the day. I saw the movie and found out about her and devoured all the comics I could find, which admittedly were not many, as I lived in a tiny town with no comic shops. I went so far as to dress up like her for Halloween one year, good times, that. I signed up for Comixology specifically to find older issues. So to be handed a new Tank Girl, to read and review, is like, a dream come true. Seriously.
I love her. I love the swears. I love the sarcasm. I love the pop culture references (because yes, Kris Kristofferson is pretty godly). I’m beyond stoked that Titan brought her back for new adventures. Okay, enough fangirling..on to the review.
Tank Girl Gold picks up right at the end of Two Girls, One Tank is Tank Girl and Sub Girl, and Barney and Booga, trying to figure out what to do with all the Nazi gold they’ve found, but first, there is that small matter of Sub Girl and what happened to her. When Tank Girl and Sub Girl find out that is was Booga and Barney behind the loss of memory, and life, they hatch a plan of epic humor to make them pay. Barney’s punishment isn’t too harsh, but what they put Booga through…well I don’t want to spoil it, but I will say this, Christmas pudding. Cryptic maybe, but you’ll understand if you read it. And you’ll laugh. A lot.
Also, I must write about the catch phrase of this series, “It’s been swell, but the swellings gone down.” A long time ago (roughly 14 years) I was in the hospital with such bad tonsillitis that I was hooked up to a bunch of tubes to keep me hydrated. And on the day I left, the message on the whiteboard I left behind for the awesome nurses was, “It’s been swell, but the swelling’s gone down.” So yeah, I’m loving having Tank Girl back in my life.
5 twisted, curse filled stars way up!
