The September 2016 Loot Crate, “Speed,” was one of the better crates this year. I tweeted about it as I opened it, but here’s a more detailed write-up.
First of all, there’s the Stark racing shirt. It’s not one for the ages, but it’s fun, with its blue racing stripes, swoosh, and number. Also, it’s black–a fairly common color, and one that is much nicer than the bland gray that is the usual alternative and much less likely to stain than the white variety. It’s made with a fairly thick T-shirt fabric, which bodes well for future wearing.
The exclusive Batwing Keychain is my favorite item this month; it’s got a lot of detail for something so small. I liked it so much that I promptly put it on my key ring. It is amazing to look at, and it makes keys satisfactorily easy to locate in a big, messy purse. It’s not entirely without its drawbacks, however–those marvelous fins have a tendency to catch on purse and pocket linings (thus the slight rubbing you can see in the image), and can poke the person who carelessly pockets them. They don’t seem to catch enough to tear anything, though, so this puts the problem into the realm of “minor annoyance” that is outweighed by “makes me smile.” Your mileage may vary.
All that aside, the Scar replica is really an amazing piece, plenty of detail and ferocity and worth space on anyone’s shelf simply on the grounds of being a really cool ship.
The button this week will get you a free copy of Velocity from comixology, which is fun–new things to read are always, always welcome. Be sure to log in before the 31st if you want it, though.
The Loot Crate magazine is, as always, funny and sharp, with interviews, summaries, and a certain amount of snark.
All in all, this crate is a good reminder of why people like Loot Crate.
FTC Disclosure: I received the September 2016 Loot Crate in return for an honest review.
