Alright Sasha, please explain to us how you were enchanted by cosplay…
A friend of mine convinced me to dress up for my first convention. [It] was a lot of fun making a favorite character of mine come to life. What weirded me out then was all the people that wanted to take my picture. I’m much more comfortable with that now. 🙂
I know what you mean about pictures! The first time I dressed up I was surprised by the enthusiasm for my costume. Tell me: What inspires your cosplay creations and how long have you been a cosplayer?
I typically choose a character based on my interest in them or what they represent. Strong, female characters are my typical draw. I started cosplaying Fall 2012.
Strong characters are also attractive to me (wink wink). All kidding aside, what do you expect from cosplay and how do you think it will influence your future?
I didn’t expect much when I first started. It’s the unexpected that I have loved the most. Meeting amazing people and finding this creativity I didn’t know I had. Cosplaying has given me confidence in myself that I have been looking for for years. This confidence has carried over into my day to day.
Preach it! Cosplay boosted my self-confidence and gave me the courage to be myself in situations where I would have otherwise conformed. Have any cosplayers inspired that transition in your life? Do you have any favorite cosplayers?
I have dozens of ones I love! But, if I have to choose one, it would be Flocksy Locksy I love her style and she chooses characters I would choose.
Gah, it’s like choosing a favorite child! ???? But, out of all my creations, my Battle Mage Inquisitor from Dragon Age Inquisition is my favorite. It is one of the easiest to be in, and I love all the details I was able to add to it. Plus, it represents what I hope others see in me. Strong, intelligent female that does whatever she can to help others and protect those who need it.
Choosing a favorite is certainly difficult but I believe you selected the proper cosplay: it is AMAZING! What medium do you like to work in when making costumes? Do you buy things often (accessories, shoes, etc.)?
I typically only buy shoes and pants, cause pants are hard to make ???? The creating part is my favorite. Using my hands to turn raw materials into something. Thermoplastics have turned into my favorite material to work with. You can make so many different things out of them the possibilities are near endless!
I ADORE Thermoplastics but they often come with a heavy price tag. As we come to a close with this AWESOME interaction what advice would you like to offer cosplayers in the world?
Advice you would like to offer cosplayers of the world: Just have fun!! Cosplaying is about enjoying the character you are wearing. Dive in and see where it takes you ❤
Thank you for sharing Sasha!
