Is it bad that the first thing I thought after watching this teaser for Power Rangers was “I wish haircuts were that easy?” I mean, look at that: the rebellious, angry girl grabs a huge hunk of her hair, chops it off and…ends up with a perfect, bouncy wave.
Meanwhile, the rest of us have to work at getting our hair to look right and may never achieve that perfect level of bounce.
In the rest of the trailer, a diverse bunch of rebellious teens–we’re not told yet what they’re rebelling about–ends up in detention before heading down to a gloomy, mysterious restricted area with walls slick with moisture and weird glowing bits–basically, the perfect place to relax. After that, they end up with powers, which seem almost as easy to get as good haircuts, and at least one nasty, spiky enemy–also easily acquired, though no one envies them that.
Presumably after that, the real trouble starts, though it’s not clear yet what form that will take–beyond women who have killed Power Rangers before, that is.
Basically, what I’m saying is that this is not the most inspiring trailer ever, though to be fair it doesn’t look any worse than the average teen action-movie trailer and may not have a whole lot to do with the actual movie.
Power Rangers comes out in March 2017. The trailer features the song “I Walk The Line” by Halsey.
