Today gives us a new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer and a new Jyn-centric poster. The trailer gives more insight into just who Jyn is and a little more about building the Death Star. Now that they’re showing us the Death Star designer as a man desperate to protect his daughter, it seems possible that the mysterious one weakness in its construction might not actually have been an oversight–though that won’t explain the weakness in Return of the Jedi. Jyn is shaping up to be more than the cocky rebel she seemed at first glimpse; she is capable of some rousing speeches, at least. Her ragtag, reckless crew gets to show of their skills. In the shots given, they’re pretty cheerful about sneaking in to grab the plans of the Ultimate Weapon.
There are also plenty of shots of the Empire doing its heavy-handed, rule-by-might thing, with stomping robots, lots of fire, and an impressive array of planets. Grand Moff Tarkin is going to earn his pay, it seems, rounding everyone up and getting the show on the road. Is it just me, or does it look like he and Jyn’s father have some history between them? Tarkin doesn’t seem to be looking at just any engineer there but at someone he knows.
It’s not long before this hits the theaters. Who else is planning on going?
an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire’s ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story arrives in theaters December 16, 2016.
