Like so many others, I was absolutely devastated when David Bowie passed away from cancer earlier this year. His musical career and his fashion sense dominated pop culture. In the new coloring book by Mel Elliott, David Bowie: Retrospective and Coloring Book, fans of the Thin White Duke have a chance to color their way through the life of the icon.
It is strange to see such a colorful man in black and white images, but like his art, there is so much room to adapt and make it your own. The book focuses on Bowie’s history, but also on the major fashion choices that have become so ingrained in our memory. The powder blue suit and the melancholy clown outfits are there alongside the Ziggy Stardust wardrobe and Aladdin Sane facial makeup. I feel like this book needs to be accompanied with a packet of glitter and the largest box of colored pencils you can find.
David Bowie: Retrospective and Coloring Book is now available from Watson-Guptill.
