June is lookAudiobook Month, so everybody get out your CD players, your MP3 players, or whatever else you use to listen to your books because we’re celebrating the many books we all love to read by ear! Whether your love is fantasy, mystery, biography, or horror, you can always find a book on audio. In an age when the publishing business is really suffering, the one division that is booming is that of audiobooks. As of today, Audible, the chief seller of downloadable audiobooks, has 362,076 titles in its U.S. catalog. And as people listen to books more and make this already- growing field even more popular, they will continue to expand, with even more books getting recorded.
We at Fangirl Nation want to commemorate this month, so to celebrate, this month we’ll be featuring a number of interviews of audiobook narrators. You’ll learn that narrating a book involves a whole lot more than just reading a book out loud. If they do their job right, the performers of audiobooks will hardly get noticed. It’s only when they do a poor job that we pay attention to the performance itself.
Stay tuned for more articles this month about what audiobooks mean to us, interviews with the narrators, and even a grand giveaway of audiobooks!
