The Tenth Doctor is back and he is the first in a new prelude series called The Road To The Thirteenth Doctor. There will be three stories, one of each, The Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctor.
The Tenth Doctor leads off with Ghost Ship, a trip to a ship lost in space, and as usual, The Doctor is there to be a helper or a nuisance, depending on who you ask. With his companions Cindy and Gabby, he stumbles upon a crew in desperate need of help. I’m trying to avoid spoilers as the twist was pretty well done, and I don’t want to give it away. What I will say is, the author (James Peaty) does a really great job of capturing Ten’s sass and big heart, but I’m not a huge fan of how he was drawn. I know in comics you don’t always get a lifelike drawing of a character, but I’ve seen him done better, and that colors how I feel about this.
The story was good and I thought it made a good use of characterization, not only of his heart and sass, but his optimism. Plus there was an added Star Wars reference that tickled me. All in all, a solid opening to this preldue series. I’m looking forward to see what they do with Eleven and Twelve, though to be honest, I really want to see Thirteen. In a comic. On the tv. Just, come on already.
