Charities for Fangirls: The Wayne Foundation

Share

Human trafficking is not just a horror that happens in other countries or movies like Hostel; it is a real and terrifying threat in the United States as well. Enter the Wayne Foundation. Named after our favorite Bat-clad hero with a cape and a cowl, the Wayne Foundation out of Florida works to help assist those who have been trafficked and get them the help they need.

The foundation’s primary long term objective is to provide shelter to those who need it, as well as educate the public of how people are tricked, lured, or captured into human trafficking. They have a drop in shelter in Charlotte County Florida. They provide food, new clothing, places to shower, family counseling, education assistance, transportation, mental health support and help them sign up for health benefits.

The Wayne Foundation was formed by Kevin Smith of nerd fame, and survivor and fellow founder Jamie Walton. There is even a podcast to find out more: https://waynefdn.org/podcasts/.
