Prince has died at 57

Today the world learned of the sad news that Prince, full name Prince Rodgers Nelson, has passed away at his home in Minnesota. His publicist confirmed the tragic news earlier today, the associated press reported. TMZ had previously reported of Prince’s plane making an emergency landing on Friday due to Prince’s health concerns. He was released hours later and performed a concert the next day.

Prince will forever be immortalized by his hits such as Purple Rain, When Doves Cry, 1999, and Let’s Go Crazy. Purple Rain earned him an Academy Award for Best Original Song Score in 1985. Prince won 7 Grammy Awards during his career. In 2004 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2007 he performed during the Super Bowl halftime show in what has been considered one of the greatest performances of all time. Prince’s albums have sold over 100 million copies.
