‘Soma’ Combines Struggling Creatives and Alien Invasion

Share

Maya is having a creative breakdown. With her deadlines always on the horizon and the same scripts coming to her over and over, she wants desperately to try something new. In addition to trying to talk down her friend, Juju, with his frequent dating nightmares, or dealing with her mother’s veiled insults, the last thing Maya expects is to have an alien crash land in living room. The alien’s kind is rapidly approaching the planet with plans to conquer for resources, and it he and Maya need to work fast to save the planet earth. Soma, her new friend, has seen humans at their best and needs to find a way to connect with his people to warn them not to take out the planet, while Juju struggles to keep two new friends alive.

Soma is written by Fernando LLor with art by Carles Dalmau. The pages are full of bright colors and cute art that keep the existential dread of an alien invasion at bay. Keep an eye out for strange religious cults and the fact that for some reason every time there is a crisis people hoard toilet paper.

Soma comes to stores from Oni Press on February 26, 2025.
