People I Want to Punch in the Throat: Motherhood, Blog Life, Pinterest

cover48511-smallPeople I Want to Punch in the Throat is possibly the fastest I’ve ever picked up a book due to the title. Jen Mann tells the story of her life in short segments, most of which are hysterically funny. From meeting her husband online due to her unfortunate choice of Screenname to the cringe-worthy tales of play-date despots, Mann covers her life as a parent, wife, Star Wars geek, and real estate agent in the state of Kansas.

Mann’s writing style is less like a traditional biography and more like a series of blog posts. The segments are short, funny and to the point. Her language is akin to talking with your friends after a couple glasses of wine, retelling the stupid things you’ve done. As a childless woman myself, I was absolutely terrified by descriptions of mothers driven mad with the invention of Pinterest. Mann’s description of accidentally showing up to a swingers Fourth of July party made me laugh out loud. Her tales of becoming “that pajama mom” at her children’s school and how her housekeeper saved her marriage are hilariously engaging.

People I Want to Punch in the Throat is funny read for parents and those without children as well.

People I Want to Punch in the Throat is available from Random House Books September 9th, 2014.
