Catherine the Great was minor German princess married to imbecilic Peter the III, whose birthright placed him on the Russian throne. Her rise to power was full of power struggles and court intrigue. Once she became Empress, she reigned over a golden age as one of the most renowned female monarchs in the world. This 12 episode historical drama is based off of archival documents and will be set from during her first 20 years in Russia.
