The Moss Theater at the New Roads School in Santa Monica, CA welcomed back one of the most beloved writing dynasties of the United States: The Rice Family. Anne Rice and her son Christopher sat in conversation for Live Talks LA. Their second talk with Live Talks LA, this particular discussion was to celebrate Anne’s recently released Prince Lestat and Christopher’s book, The Vines.
The two discussed origins of characters, including the famed Lestat, whom Anne claims is based both on her late husband Stan Rice and a bit of who she wishes she could be. She discussed her delight in returning to writing claiming she wants to write “several more” books in the coming years. In addition, she has recently signed contracts with Universal to bring her Vampire Chronicles to film with Christopher writing the screen plays. The two joked lovingly about the more risque books of Anne’s writing history that Christopher until now has been able to avoid, and the fact that Thanksgiving was going to be dusty as they search a storage unit for the original copy of Anne’s “Interview with the Vampire” short story.
Anne Rice is incredibly active on Facebook, and her Southern California audience made themselves known last night as the “People of the Page” cheered on their favorite writer, asked her questions and waited to get their books signed.
Christopher Rice can also be heard on his podcast with his best friend Eric Shaw Quinn on The Dinner Party Show.
