In 2011, Hollywood’s love letter to American cinema and technology resulted with the cinematic splendor of Hugo. India is following suit in 2015 to their own patriotic achievements with Hawaizaada, a biopic of the legendary Shivkar Bapuji Talpade, said to have flown the first unmanned airplane eight years before the Wright brothers. His journey to exhilarating flight promises a visual treat with a melodramatic theatricality that provokes the wonder of early silent films and modern fantasy. Hawaizaada’s aesthetic opulence is reminiscent of Hugo’s style, seeped in a dreamlike nostalgia that makes it so magical to watch.
